Dong Nai River originates from Lam Vien Plateau (Lam Dong) and flows into the Saigon River to return to the East Sea. On this 586 km long river, there are more than a dozen hydroelectric stations that have been and are planned to be built to exploit the water flow in a stepwise manner, including the Dong Nai 4 hydropower plant.

According to the plan, that is the terraced hydroelectric power plant. 6th from upstream of Dong Nai river (after Don Duong, Dai Ninh, Dong Nai 1, Dong Nai 2, and Dong Nai 3).
The focal cluster of Dong Nai 4 Hydropower Plant is located in Quang Khe town, Dak GLong district, Dak Nong province and Loc Bao commune, Bao Lam district, Lam Dong province.
